With entries at closing for its May auction far exceeding the number of stalls at the Timonium Fairgrounds in Maryland, Fasig-Tipton has scheduled an additional Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training. The auction, which also will include older horses of racing age, will be held at Timonium on June 28, with an under tack show on June 27.
"The stable area at Timonium cannot accommodate the number of entries submitted for the May sale this year," said Paget Bennett, the sales coordinator for Fasig-Tipton's Midlantic office.
"We are adding the June date mainly for those horses and consignors which we would otherwise have to turn away. The last time we had two in-training sales at Timonium was in 2003, when the 2-year-olds in the later sale averaged nearly $15,000."
Entries will close on May 13.
