Champion filly Sweet Catomine emerged as a solid favorite in Pool 2 of Churchill Downs' 2005 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, but there was also strong support for the rapidly improving Summerly as wagering in the four-day pool concluded on Sunday evening.

The reigning 2-year-old filly champion and winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) was a clear 3-1 favorite among 24 wagering interests in the March 10-13 pool. Wagering in the pool closed before the Julio Canani-trained daughter of Storm Cat won the $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I) as the heavy favorite.

Although she did not threaten Sweet Catomine for the role of favorite, Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC's Summerly attracted considerable support during the final two days of KOFW Pool 2 and closed as the 6-1 second choice. The odds on the Steve Asmussen-trained daughter of Summer Squall dropped sharply following her easy victory in Saturday's $300,000 Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II). Summerly, who had opened Saturday's betting at 28-1, saw her odds plummet to 8-1 by the end of that day's wagering, and attracted even more support before the pool closed at 6:30 p.m. (EST) on Sunday evening.

Pool 2 attracted total wagering of $53,106, a 15% increase over the last year's betting of $46,151. Total betting on the two 2005 Oaks Future pools stands at $99,257.

The mutuel field, which included all 3-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual horses in Pool 2, closed as the third betting choice at 10-1. Davona Dale (gr. II) winner Sis City also closed at 10-1. The pool also saw strong backing for Hollywood Futurity (gr. I) winner Splendid Blended (12-1), Las Virgenes (gr. I) winner Sharp Lisa (12-1), Bonnie Miss (gr. II) winner Letgomyecho (15-1), Golden Rod (gr. II) winner Runway Model (17-1), and Cream Donut Keith (21-1).

The third and final pool of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager is set for April 7-10. The $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), a 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies, will be run for the 131st consecutive year on May 6.
