(from Oaklawn Park report)Trainer Cole Norman tied an Oaklawn Park record March 11 when he saddled five winners, including a $58.20 bomb, on the 10-race program.
In the 101-year history of Oaklawn, Bobby Barnett and David Vance are the only other trainers to saddle five winners on one program. Vance accomplished the feat on Apr. 7, 1973, and Barnett matched that total on Feb. 5, 1994.
The 36-year-old Norman, en route to his fifth straight Oaklawn training title, kicked off his big day by winning the first race with Meckenized ($3.60). After settling for fourth with Sabrina's Magic in race two, Norman won race three with Fabulous Charmer ($5.60); race four with Gold Chance at $58.20; race seven with Little Shon ($4), and the ninth-race feature with Top Commander ($11).
With the chance to set the record in race 10, Norman's Flashy Falsehood finished fourth the 4-5 favorite. Flashy Falsehood actually finished third, but was placed fourth for impeding Gifford Road in mid-stretch.
The five victories gives Norman a meet-high 36 winners in 30 racing days.
