Oaks Future Pool Mostly Ignored at Midpoint

Only $9,021 had been wagered through the midway point of the second 2005 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool, with Sweet Catomine, winner of an Eclipse Award as the 2-year-old filly champion of 2004, emerging as the solid favorite.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wygod's imposing daughter of Storm Cat, who is heavily favored to win Sunday's $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I), stood as the 7-2 choice among 24 wagering interests in Pool 2 when wagering concluded Friday evening.

Splendid Blended, a narrow favorite over Sweet Catomine after Thursday's opening day of Pool 2 betting, was the 7-1 second choice at the halfway point of Pool 2. Las Virgenes (gr. I) winner Sharp Lisa and the mutuel field, which includes all 3-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual betting interests in the pool, both stood at 8-1 after two days of wagering in the four-day pool.

Betting on KOFW Pool 2 is scheduled to resume at Noon (all times EST) on Sat., March 12 and betting will continue through 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks, a mile and an eighth race for 3-year-old fillies, will be run on May 6.
