John Fahey III has left his position as private trainer for Donald Dizney's Double Diamond Farm and plans to open a public stable to race primarily on the Kentucky circuit and at Gulfstream Park or Fair Grounds in the winter.

Fahey, a native of Louisville, Ky. was represented by his first winner as a trainer last June 11 when his first starter, Elwha, won at Churchill Downs. The 27-year-old has won 13 races from 60 starters for a strike rate of 22%, and his runners have finished in the money 47% of the time.

Fahey has worked for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas and Steve Asmussen, the nation's leading trainer in 2004 by victories. His experience in the industry also includes working stints at Overbrook Farm in Lexington, Ky., and Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, Ky. while attending college.
