TVG Network, the interactive horseracing network, and the Thoroughbred Owners of California announced Thursday the two organizations are partnering to offer the first TVG/TOC Short Film Contest, in which amateur filmmakers producing films about Thoroughbred horseracing will compete for $20,000 in cash prizes and an internship at TVG.
The winner will be awarded a cash prize of $10,000 and an opportunity to intern at TVG's television studio in Los Angeles for three months. The second, third, and fourth place entrants will receive cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively. Entries will be accepted now through June 30 and the winners will be announced on-air during TVG Network programming.
"TVG and the TOC share a commitment to exposing the great sport of horseracing to non-traditional younger audiences and this Short Film Contest embodies that commitment," said Ryan O'Hara, president of TVG. "We are pleased to be partnering with TOC on the project and look forward to seeing the submissions from talented amateur filmmakers nationwide."
Eligibility in the contest is limited to students currently enrolled in an accredited trade school, city college, college, university, or graduate school. The judging of the short films and selection of the prize winners will be conducted by a panel of horseracing and film experts chosen by TVG and the TOC.
