A pair of Bobby Frankel-trained grass specialists, Burning Sun and Gigli, third and eighth respectively in Gulfstream's Mac Diarmida Handicap (gr. IIIT) Jan.30, are likely to face each other once again in Sunday's Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IT), going 1 3/8 miles. Juddmonte Farms Inc.'s Burning Sun and T N T Stud's Gigli both breezed three-quarters at Palm Meadows in 1:14.40 Feb. 25. "Burning Sun is doing very good," said Frankel's Palm Meadows assistant, Brian Lynch, Wednesday. "It looks like he'll go in there, and now it appears that Gigli will likely go in that spot, too." Burning Sun, beaten a length in the Mac Diarmida, had been away from the races since Churchill's Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (gr. IT) on Kentucky Derby Day last year, where he finished fourth, beaten 3 1/4 lengths. Previously, he was fourth in the Mervyn Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap (gr. IIT) in New Orleans March 21. Gigli had been absent since Belmont's Bowling Green Handicap (gr. IIT) last July 17 prior to his local seasonal bow. In the 1 3/8-mile Bowling Green the Brazilian-bred Gigli was third behind Arlington Million (gr. IT) winner Kicken Kris and John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) winner Better Talk Now.
