Jockey Mawing Hits 1,000-Win Milestone

Jockey Leslie Mawing registered his 1,000th career win when he guided Wata Sunrise ($5.40) to victory in the ninth race Friday at Turf Paradise.

"So this is what it feels like," said Mawing, 30, a native of South Africa. "Now I'll have to gun for the next thousand."

Mawing, who rode his first winner at Boise in Idaho in 1994, is ranked in the top ten in the local jockey standings.
