The Ogden Mills Phipps-homebred filly Daydreaming will be making her first start of the year when she leads a field of six fillies and mares, including the top three finishers in Banshee Breeze Handicap, in Saturday's $100,000 Sabin Handicap (gr. III) going 1 1/8 miles over the main track at Gulfstream Park.
Daydreaming, trained by Shug McGaughey, has been off since closing out her 3-year-old season with back-to-back wins in the Indiana Breeders' Cup Oaks (gr. III) and the Top Flight Handicap (gr. II), where she beat older fillies.
Daydreaming has been working with regularity at Gulfstream and posted a best-of-16 prep of :59 for five furlongs Feb. 20.
The regally-bred daughter of A.P. Indy
out of the Mr. Prospector mare Get Lucky will carry a highweight of 118 pounds and be ridden by jockey Jerry Bailey.
While Daydreaming is likely to draw a lot of attention, a pair of fillies from the barn of trainer Marty Wolfson should provide the Phipps color bearer with plenty of challenge. The talented pair of Pampered Princess and Adobe Gold finished one-two as outsiders in the Jan. 23 Banshee Breeze Handicap.
Jockey Eddie Castro has the mount aboard Pampered Princess, who will carry 117 pounds, and jockey Javier Castellano will ride Adobe Gold, who carries 116 pounds.
Not to be overlooked is Chilean-import Isola Piu Bella, who finished third in her first North American start behind Pampered Princess and Adobe Gold in the Banshee Breeze. Jockey John Velazquez gets the mount aboard the Todd Pletcher-trained Isola Piu Bella.
Pletcher will also send out Path of Thunder, hasn't run since taking the off-the-turf Golden Pond at Calder Dec. 17. The field for Saturday's $100,000 Sabin Handicap includes:
1-- Pampered Princess (Eddie Castro, 117)
2-- Daydreaming (Jerry Bailey, 118)
3-- Isola Piu Bella (John Velazquez, 117)
4-- Valliant Dancer (Edgar Prado, 112)
5-- Adobe Gold (Javier Castellano, 116)
6-- Path of Thunder (Joe Bravo, 113)
