Live racing was cancelled Wednesday at Suffolk Downs
due to unsafe track conditions caused by heavy rain Tuesday. "We expected the rain, but when it turned cold last night, we were unable to remove the water," said chief operating officer Bob O'Malley. "As a result, there was no footing on the racetrack." Suffolk Downs is scheduled to resume live racing Saturday... Effective Thursday, the takeout on Pick 3 wagering at Sam Houston Race Park
will drop from 25% to 12%, subject to approval by the Texas Racing Commission. The track is also revamping the Pick 3 wagering format, also effective Thursday... Churchill Downs Inc.
has been selected to receive the "Associate of the Year" award from Centre College, a private college in Danville, Ky. According to a release from the racetrack operating company, the honor is "in recognition of its commitment to community service, leadership in the horse racing industry, and success in strategic corporate management." has been scheduled for noon March 12 at Grosvenor Chapel in London, England. Jenney, a prominent Pennsylvania horse breeder who died in November, owned Derry Meeting Farm. Jenney's wife, Bettina, will continue to run Derry Meeting Farm and will sell at the Saratoga and Keeneland yearling sales as part of the Eaton Sales consignments... A stakes race at Hastings Park Racecourse
in Vancouver, British Columbia, will be renamed in honor of Jim Coleman, a sports columnist who died Jan. 14 at age 89. The Province Stakes on July 14 has been renamed the Jim Coleman Province Stakes.
