Plesa Aims B.B. Best for Fountain of Youth

(from Gulfstream Park notes)
B.B. Best, most recently fourth in Gulfstream Park's $250,000 Sunshine Millions Ocala Stud Dash Jan. 29, worked one mile handily in 1:44 4/5 at Calder Race Course Friday and is being pointed for the Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) at Gulfstream March 5.

"That's the plan right now," said trainer Eddie Plesa Jr. Saturday morning when asked about B.B. Best's most recent move, which he said was designed to prepare him for the nine furlongs of the Fountain of Youth.

The Bea Oxenberg and Laurie Plesa-owned son of Yes It's True   had worked a bullet five-eighths at Calder in :59 4/5 in handy fashion on Feb. 10. "We'll probably give him one more work in about a week and then hope everything goes a little better for us in this next race.

"In that last race he didn't run quite the way we expected," said Plesa. The Florida-bred was forced to steady early in the Millions Dash.

In his prior start, the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs Nov. 27, B.B. Best was bumped at the start, rushed up to make the pace and weakened late to finish fourth, beaten 2 1/2 lengths.

B.B. Best captured the $400,000 In Reality division of the Florida Stallion Stakes at 1 1/16 miles last October.
