Speightstown Fully Recovered; Bred First Mare Feb. 14

Champion sprinter Speightstown  , who experienced colic problems in mid-December, is fully recovered from his ordeal and covered his first mare Feb. 14 at WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky.

"They corrected a torsion without a re-section," said WinStar president Doug Cauthen about the procedure done at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute near Lexington. "They did not remove any intestine. He's completely recovered."

Speightstown, who returned to WinStar within a week, stands for a syndicate under the direction of a joint venture between WinStar, owned by Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt, and the Taylor family's Taylor Made Farm. The millionaire son of Gone West out of the Storm Cat mare Silken Cat retired to the farm following his win in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) for Eugene and Laura Melnyk. His fee is $40,000.
