Snowdrops tracked the pace set by favored Angela's Love and Binya, then surged to the front inside the sixteenth pole to win Saturday's $100,000 Suwannee River Handicap (gr. IIIT) on the grass at Gulfstream Park.

Snowdrops took the Suwannee River by three-quarters of a length over Angela's Love, who was a neck in front of High Court.

"She got lucky to get a hole and she did the rest," said winning rider Edgar Prado. "She's a really nice filly."

Snowdrops, a 5-year-old grey/roan mare by Gulch, paid $9.40, $4.40 and $3 and ran the 1 1/8-mile event over a firm course in 1:46.40. Her victory avenged a loss this meet to Angela's Love in the Marshua's River Jan. 9.

Trainer Christophe Clement said Snowdrops was boxed in during the Marshua's River so the plan Saturday was to race closer to the pace.

"As a younger filly she was very rank, but as she has gotten older she has become much more relaxed," said Clement.

Owned by G. Howard Spink, Snowdrops has won seven of 16 lifetime starts and earned $318,354.

Angela's Love returned $3.80 and $3 as the 2-1 favorite in the field of 10. High Court paid $4.20.

Honey Ryder, Galloping Gal, Binya, Savedbythelight, Krasnaya, Banyu Dewi, and Key to the Cat followed.
