Thoroughbred Charities of America announced the appointment of Betty Moran to its board of directors. The TCA is a fund raising organization that distributes grants to Thoroughbred rescue, retirement, research, education, backstretch, and handicap riding programs.

"If ever a definition of a philanthropist is needed, just describe Betty Moran," Herb Moelis, president and founder of TCA, said in a release. "Here is a woman who is truly a philanthropist in heart and action. All one needs to do is ask and Betty steps forward. We are honored to have her on the board of directors of Thoroughbred Charities of America."

Moran owns Brushwood Stable in Malvern, Pa. Primarily a Thoroughbred racing and breeding operation, Brushwood maintains a stable of 25 Thoroughbreds with various trainers throughout the country.

TCA has raised more than $10 million for various equine charities in the last 15 years. Last December's gala charity stallion season and art auction raised $1.86 million.
