"CITGO Racing to the Kentucky Derby," a nine-show series on the ABC and ESPN networks that provides coverage of key Visa Triple Crown prep races, returns in March, with coverage of the March 5 Fountain of Youth (gr. II) and Swale Stakes (gr. II) from Gulfstream Park.
The series will present 13 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) prep races from nine different race tracks.
Both the Fountain of Youth and Swale Stakes will air on ABC, from 5-6 p.m., marking the first year the racing series will air on that network.
Among the highlights of the racing series will be the telecast of two grade I races, the April 2 Florida Derby from Gulfstream Park and the April 16 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes from Keeneland. The Florida Derby will air from 5-6 p.m. on ABC and the Blue Grass will air from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
Other notable races to be telecast include the March 12 Louisiana Derby (gr. II) at Fair Grounds and the April 16 Arkansas Derby (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park. The Louisiana Derby will air from 4-4:30 p.m. on ESPN 2 and the Arkansas Derby will be included in the Blue Grass Stakes telecast.
Also featured will be bonus same-day coverage of the March 26 UAE Derby (UAE-I) and Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) from Nad al Sheba, airing from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on ESPN.
The series will culminate with a Triple Crown special, airing May 1, just six days before the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The one-hour special will air from 6-7 p.m. on ESPN 2.
Hosting the shows on ABC will be Terry Gannon, joined by analyst Randy Moss and reporters Jeannine Edwards and Hank Goldberg. Kenny Mayne will be the host on ESPN, also working with Moss, Edwards, and Goldberg.
