Rafael Bejarano, Aqueduct's leading rider, has been hit with a seven-day suspension and will sit out next week after accepting the ban without appealing.
Bejarano was disqualified from a winning ride when it was ruled that his mount, Black Mariah, lugged into the path of second place finisher, Georgetown Gal.
Bejarano, whose suspension will begin Wednesday, has not missed a beat since arriving in New York in early December. Entering Saturday, the Peruvian had a 53-38 lead on Norberto Arroyo Jr in the jockeys' race at Aqueduct.
The suspension ends any speculation that Bejarano would pick up the mount on Galloping Grocer, who makes his 3-year old debut in the Whirlaway Feb. 12.
