Canani Enthused With Sweet Catomine's Drill
"Wow," trainer Julio Canani enthused. "I got her in a minute and she did it so easily. I loved how she worked."While Canani wouldn't rule out a start for Sweet Catomine against her male counterparts at some point, he did say she's "right on schedule for" the Santa Anita Oaks. "She's doing so unbelievable right now. She's a very happy horse. Right now she's a woman who's got no problems."Regular exercise rider Jose Dominguez was aboard the daughter of Storm Cat for the move, which was the 23rd fastest of the 34 who went the distance on the day. Sweet Catomine won the Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. II) in her first start as a 3-year-old Jan. 16. The bay Kentucky-bred earned her championship crown as the nation's top 2-year-old filly in 2004 after completing a season that included wins in the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I), Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. II) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I). From five starts, she's won four times with a second, for earnings of $864,600. |
