NYRA Communications Director Mathes Retires

Glen Mathes officially retired as NYRA's director of communications Jan. 30.

The 52-year-old native of Chicago worked for 23 years with NYRA, the last 14 as Director of Communications.

Mathes was an immensely popular figure and was respected throughout the industry for his knowledge, intelligence, and professionalism. He was dedicated to NYRA, its people, and the sport of Thorougbhred racing.

Mathes, who is retiring to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., was honored in Sunday's sixth race, the "Glen Mathes Farewell," which was won by Stephen D. Peskoff's Coined for Success ($10.20) and jockey Pablo Fragoso for trainer Del Carroll II.
