Sulamani received the highest rating of any horse that started in Canada last year based on the 2004 Canadian Thoroughbred Ratings, which replaced the Canadian Free Handicap. The Canadian Jockey Club compiled the rankings.
Canadian Thoroughbred Ratings were compiled based on stakes performances over the year with respect to weights carried, beaten lengths, class of competition and other impressions from which a horse's relative merits were assessed. Any horse that started in a Canadian stakes race last year was eligible to be rated on his best performance at any distance anywhere in the world.
Categories were split into five different distances designated by a letter S,M,I,L,E, (representing sprint, mile, intermediate, long, and expanded).
Sulamani earned a rating of 123 in the Intermediate division following his win in Juddmonte International (Eng-I).
That number put Sulamani on top of the Intermediate turf list in Canada. His win in Woodbine's Pattison Canadian International (Can-I) was ranked as the best performance in Canada, with a 121 rating on the Long-Extended turf list.
Topping the 2-year-old male division was Flamenco with a rating of 109, while Paddy's Daisy received the top 2-year-old filly rating at 107.
