Paasch Could Get 'Lucky' in Millions Oaks

Hello Lucky, winner of the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita Park and third to juvenile filly champion Sweet Catomine in the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) in 2004, is part of an evenly-matched field of 12 3-year-old fillies entered for the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Oaks at Santa Anita Saturday.

The Oaks kicks off the eight-race, $3.6 million Sunshine Millions program for Florida and California breds at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park.

Christopher Paasch trains Hello Lucky, a Florida-bred daughter of Lucky Lionel who will be ridden by Alex Bisono.

A pair of California breds, Memorette and Coastal Strike, are expected to get plenty of support as well.

Memorette closed out her 2-year-old campaign for trainer William Currin with a victory in the California Breeders' Champion Stakes on Dec. 27 at Santa Anita. Earlier she lost to Coastal Strike in the Generous Portion Stakes on Sept. 1 at Del Mar.

Undefeated in two starts, Coastal Strike, to be ridden by Gary Stevens for trainer Clifford Sise, has not raced since the Generous Portion. Her other victory came in a maiden claiming race at Del Mar.

The Joe Herrick-trained Cal-bred Short Route lost a half-length decision to No Bull Baby in the Moccasin Stakes at Hollywood Park Nov. 21. She owns a victory at Santa Anita in the Cover Gal Stakes.
