Ken & Sarah Ramsey, with Male Turf winner Kitten's Joy
The year 2004 turned out to be the type of year for Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey that the couple could only dream about a few years back. In their first appearance as Eclipse Award finalists, they won the outstanding owner trophy, and one of their horses, Kitten's Joy, won an Eclipse Award for best turf male.
The Ramseys bred Kitten's Joy. A finalist for both turf male and 3-year-old male, Kitten's Joy won six graded grass stakes, two of which were grade I. He also ran second in the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT).
Their Roses in May, a finalist for older male, scored his big win in the Whitney Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga. The $450,000 in prize money went a long way in the Ramseys being honored as the meet's leading owners by money won. Roses in May ended the year with a runner-up effort in the Breeders' Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge (gr. I).
The Ramseys ranked fourth on the owner list, with earnings of $5,855,964, and eighth on the breeder list, with $4,817,083. They were represented by additional homebred stakes winners Nothing to Lose, On the Bus, and Kathern's Cat. The last-named is by the Ramseys' stallion Catienus, who led all freshman sires in 2004 with 19 winners. He stands in New York State.
Nothing to Lose provided the Ramseys with a big win in front of the home folks at Keeneland, capturing the Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (gr. IT). The Ramseys live at Ramsey Farm near Nicholasville, Ky
