Maybe Jack, whose 13 wins in 1997 was the most for a horse that year, died following a fourth-place finish Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

A 12-year-old son of Classic Account out of the Summing mare Hester Lou, Maybe Jack initially raced for his namesake, Jack H. Smith III, and was a stakes winner for John F. Buckley Jr.

Maybe Jack's 13 wins in 1997 was more than a third of his 35 career wins from 122 starts. Maybe Jack, who earned $534,715, was last owned by trainer Edwin Thomas Broome.
