FJ's Pace, a popular campaigner with California fans for many years, has been retired.

"He had a filling in his pastern and needed a couple months off, so we decided to retire him," trainer Doug O'Neill said.

A 10-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Gallant Prospector-All My Promises, FJ's Pace had a 20-10-11 record from 68 starts with earnings of $794,420. With Jerry Bailey aboard, he finished third in the 2003 Sunshine Millions Sprint at Santa Anita.

"He was a cool, cool horse," O'Neill said. "He's going to RenMar Farm in Temecula to be in the pasture with Sky Jack."
