A yearling colt by Yes It's True
was purchased by Athens Woods for $200,000 to top the second consignor preferred session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s 2005 winter mixed sale Jan. 18 in Ocala, Fla.
Johnson Hollow Farm (Dean and Peggy Johnson), agent consigned the bay colt out of Hollow Design (by Colonial Affair), a half-sister to graded stakes winner Voice of Destiny.
The session's high priced mare was Boots 'N Jackie, a graded stakes winner of more than $600,000 and graded stakes producer, purchased by Gulf Coast Farms Bloodstock for $190,000. Equitor Farm, agent, consigned the 15-year-old mare by Major Moran out of Cherokee Ace (by Cherokee Fellow). A full sister to stakes winner Boots 'n Buck, she is the dam of graded stakes winner Supah Blitz.
For the second consignor preferred session, 187 horses grossed $3,509,100, compared with 130 horses bringing a total of $2,651,000 in the corresponding session last year. The average price was $18,765, compared with $20,932 in 2004, while the median price was $12,000, 20% above $10,000 a year ago. The buy back percentage was 32.7%; it was 24.8% last year.
For the two consignor preferred sessions combined, 373 horses brought a total of $7,164,800, compared with 290 horses grossing $5,778,200 last year. The average price was $19,209, almost identical to the $19,925 average last year, while the median price of $12,000 was even with last year's median. The buy back percentage was 32% compared with 26.2% a year ago. Thirty four horses brought $50,000 or more compared with 26 last year. M.S.T.S. led all buyers, taking home five horses for a total of $230,000.
The sale continues Jan. 19 at 11 a.m with the first of two open sessions.
