CTBA, Barretts to Conduct Yearling Sale Together

The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Barretts Equine will combine their respective annual yearling sales in a one-day event to be held Oct. 4 at Barretts' Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex Park in Southern California. Previously, the CTBA conducted a yearling sale at Del Mar in August and Barretts held a preferred yearling auction in October.

"The pooling of our resources will provide a centralized yearling marketplace for California breeders," said Doug Burge, the CTBA executive vice president and general manager. "Both organizations are committed to working together, utilizing the talents and assets of each organization in place of the current competitive environment."

"Our goal is to have all of California's best market yearlings in one sale at a time that is convenient to the largest number of buyers," said Jerry McMahon, Barretts' president and general manager. "The entire California racing industry needs to work together, and this venture with the CTBA is a major step in that direction."

Approximately 350 horses will be catalogued.
