Online Poll Seeks Santa Anita's Top Moment
XpressBet and HorseRacing TV are offering fans an opportunity to select the most memorable moment in Santa Anita Park history in an online poll celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Arcadia, California track. Seabiscuit's Santa Anita Handicap win in 1940, jockey Johnny Longden's victory in the San Juan Capistrano in his final career mount on George Royal in 1966, and the 1985 Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) win by trainer Charlie Whittingham, jockey Bill Shoemaker and Lord At War before a record crowd of 85,000 are among the moments from which voters can choose during the online polling at xpressbet.com. Voting will be conducted Jan. 14-23.HorseRacing TV will promote the voting accompanied by historic footage. The top three moments, as selected by the xpressbet.com poll, will be unveiled on NBC Sports' two-hour (4-6 p.m. ET) coverage of the "Sunshine Millions" on Jan. 29. A panel of racing experts and historians selected the 10 nominations."Paring down Santa Anita's many great moments to 10 was a difficult chore," said Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron, executive vice president for industry relations for Magna Entertainment Corp.
