The first foal for 2003 champion older male and Horse of the Year Mineshaft was delivered Jan. 7 at Indian Creek Farm near Paris, Ky. The foal is a filly out of Danzig Colors, an 11-year-old mare by Danzig--Winning Colors, by Caro. "She's a very nice foal," said Mike Evans, farm manager at Indian Creek Farm. "She's got good bone and has class. It may be hard to know much about a three-day old foal, but this one's pretty damn good. "The mare's capable of producing good foals," Evans said. "She's got a Gone West (now yearling) that is very nice. It (mating with Mineshaft) was a good mating both physically and pedigree-wise." Danzig Colors, a three-time winner in Japan, earned $252,480 on the track. She is owned by Ed and Pat Pavlish. Mineshaft, a son of A.P. Indy--Prospector's Delite, by Mr. Prospector stands at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky. His 2005 stud fee is $100,000. A winner of seven stakes in nine starts in 2002, Mineshaft won four grade I stakes and $2,209,686 during his championship season.
