Tropical Storm, a son of
Storm Cat out of the grade I-winning Pearl City, has been purchased by the NewLife Stud of Roger Braugh and his daughter, Jane Braugh. They plan to stand the 5-year-old at a Central Kentucky farm.
"We are thrilled to have acquired an exceptional son of Storm Cat," said Roger Braugh. "We raced him grandmother, Crimson Saint, and we did the mating that produced his mother, Terlingua. We are negotiating with several Central Kentucky stud farms as to where to stand the horse."
Tropical Storm won one of four starts on the racetrack for his breeder/owner Overbrook Farm. Trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, Tropical Storm broke his maiden in his third start, May 16, 2004 at Churchill Downs.
Pearl City, a daughter of the late Carson City, won the Ballerina Handicap (gr. I) and earned $367,097 in the mid '90s. Out of the graded stakes-placed Island Kitty, Pearl City is a half-sister to three other stakes winners including
Hennessy and Shy Tom.
Hennessy, a son of
Storm Cat was a three-time graded stakes winner at 2 in 1995 and was the leading sire of 2-year-olds in 2001. Among the leading sires in 2004,
Hennessy stands at Ashford Stud where his 2005 fee will be $35,000.
