Lemon Drop Kid, Red Bullet Work

Brooklyn Handicap (gr. II) winner Lemon Drop Kid continued preparing for an expected meeting with Behrens in the Suburban Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park July 4. The 4-year-old son of Kingmambo breezed five furlongs in :59 seconds Saturday morning over the fast main track at Belmont. The work was the fastest of 36 at the distance Saturday.

"I don't think it's going to be a big field for the Suburban, but you've got Behrens in there. We're looking forward to taking him on," said Lemon Drop Kid's assistant trainer, Randy Schulhofer.

The only other horse currently regarded as a probable Suburban starter is Lager, with Almutawakel listed as possible.

Stronach Stable's Red Bullet, a 3 3/4-length winner of the Preakness (gr. I), was also in action Saturday at Belmont in a five-furlong work. The chestnut son of Unbridled covered the distance in :59 1/5 seconds, breezing, with exercise rider Keith Ricks aboard.

"He went excellent. I told Keith to just sit on him and chirp at him once at the top of the stretch," said trainer Joe Orseno. "He galloped out great."

Red Bullet is expected to face More Than Ready and Chief Seattle in the 1 1/16-mile Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park July 9.
