Expect an Angel Soars to Upset Victory

Expect an Angel sprang a huge upset when she came from last to win the $100,000, grade III Chaposa Springs Handicap on Friday at Calder Race Course. Alix M was second and Habiboo third in a field of seven fillies and mares on a sloppy track.

Ridden by Joe Lopez, Expect an Angel ran seven furlongs in 1:23 3/5 and paid $80.80, $22.20, and $7.20 as a 39-1 long shot. Alix M paid $4.80 and $3.80 and Habiboo paid $3.60 to show.

Owned by Kay Hale and trained by her husband Bob, Expect an Angel is a 4-year-old daughter of Valid Expectations  . The filly increased her earnings to $150,960 with seven victories in 13 starts.
