Ryan Fogelsonger was off his mounts on today's nine-race card at Pimlico Race Course one day after being involved in a spill. The 23-year-old rider was injured when his mount, Summer Rainbow, was galloping out after her third place finish in Sunday's seventh race and tossed the rider who landed on his head.
"The x-rays were negative, but he is pretty sore," said Kevin Witte, Fogelsonger's agent in a release from the Maryland Jockey Club. "We are hoping to return on Thursday, if not Friday."
"My neck and shoulders were stiff when I woke up," said Fogelsonger, who leads all riders with 158 victories at the major Maryland tracks this year. "I'm going to take the two dark days (Tuesday and Wednesday) to rest and should be back Thursday."
The 2002 Eclipse Award winning apprentice will win the ninth title of his career when the Pimlico fall meet ends Friday. He is named on six horses on the Dec. 30 card and is expected to ride eight of the nine races on New Year's Eve.
