Action This Day, the Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old male of 2003, is expected to make his turf debut in an allowance/optional claiming race on Sunday at Santa Anita Park. It would be his first start since finishing sixth in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) May 1.

Trained by Richard Mandella for owner B. Wayne Hughes, the 3-year-old son of Kris S. has failed to hit the board in four consecutive starts since winning the 2003 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) at odds of 26-1 at Santa Anita.

"I just thought that might be a good way to start him back," said Mandella, who said he was frustrated with the just-completed season.

Action This Day is entered in a one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, the fifth race on the Sunday program. Regular jockey David Flores is named to ride.

The colt has won two of his seven starts and has earnings of $822,084.
