Wildcat Heir Determined to be a Florida-Bred, Not a Kentucky-Bred

Wildcat Heir, winner of this year's Frank J. DeFrancis Memorial Dash Stakes (gr. I) at Pimlico, is a registered Florida-bred not a Kentucky-bred as previously reported, according to a statement released Thursday, Dec. 23 by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association.


Bred by his owner, Eb Novak's New Farm, the 4-year-old son of Forest Wildcat is out of the Pentelicus mare Penniless Heiress. The Francis Memorial Dash was the fifth victory in 10 starts for Wildcat Heir, who has earned $364,460 for trainer Ben Perkins Jr.

Novak contacted The Jockey Club in late November following the DeFrancis Dash to request a correction on Wildcat Heir's foaling state. The information was changed earlier this month in The Jockey Club database.

Wildcat Heir is one of the 172 early-bird Florida-bred nominations to the 2005 Sunshine Millions to be held on Jan. 29, 2005 at Santa Anita Park and Gulfstream Park.
