European champion Brian Boru has been retired to The Beeches Stud in County Waterford in Ireland to stand under the Coolmore Stud National Hunt banner. Joining him will be 14-year Imperial Ballet.
Bred by Juddmonte Farms, Brian Boru was an English and Irish champion for Sue Magnier, whose husband, John Magnier, is Coolmore managing partner. Brian Boru's big win came in the classic Seabiscuit St. Leger Stakes (Eng-I). In North America, he twice placed in the Pattison Canadian International Stakes (Can-IT). A 4-year-old son of Sadler's Wells out of the Alleged mare Eva Luna, Brian Boru retired with earnings of $1,209,054.
Imperial Ballet (Sadler's Wells--Amaranda, by Bold Lad) achieved earlier success with some of his flat runners. A daughter, Imperial Beauty, was a group I winner in France, and another daughter, Grey Ballet, was a stakes winner in the U.S.
