Mark Guidry, a successful rider on the Chicago, Kentucky, New York and Florida circuits since he began his career in 1973, will compete at Santa Anita beginning on opening day Sunday.

Guidry's arrival follows that of Rene Douglas, who ventured to Southern California this fall and chalked up his first riding title at Hollywood Park's just-completed autumn meet.

"An opportunity came up and this seemed like a good time to come to California," said Guidry, a 45-year-old native of Duson, La., about 10 miles from Lafayette.

"He'll ride for everyone, but Jeff Mullins will be one of his main clients," said Guidry's agent, Paul Truitt.

Guidry has 4,585 career wins, with 4,065 seconds and 3,823 thirds from 28,404 career starts, winning at a 16% clip.
