Merv Griffin's Cee's Irish Wins Corte Madera

Merv Griffin's Cee's Irish, the even-money favorite, wore down pacesetter Island Escape in the final sixteenth of a mile for a nose victory in the $60,400 Corte Madera Stakes Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.
Cee's Irish rallied from fifth in a field of seven and took the one-mile feature for 2-year-old fillies in final time of 1:36.94. Trained by Doug O'Neill, Cee's Irish earned her second win in five career starts and paid $4.20. On London Time finished third, a half-length behind the top two.
Russell Baze rode Cee's Irish, who finished second (beaten a nose) aboard the gray daughter of
Cee's Tizzy in the California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita on Oct. 16.
Cee's Irish earned $36,400 for the win and has made $93,960 in five starts.
After a special Monday racing card, Golden Gate Fields will take a five-day break (Tuesday through Saturday) for the Christmas holiday. Racing will resume on Sunday, which is opening day at Santa Anita.
