Andreas Jacobs' Humaita, a three-time stakes winner this year, looks to cap off 2004 as the 119-pound highweight in the La Prevoyante Handicap (gr. IIT) at Calder Saturday. The La Prevoyante, which goes at approximately 3:58 p.m., is the first of four stakes on the "Grand Slam II" card at the south Florida track.

Humaita will face a full gate of fillies and mares in the 1 1/2-mile race, and spots from two to eight pounds. The German bred 4-year-old filly has won four of eight starts this year for trainer H. Graham Motion since making her U.S. debut last February at Gulfstream Park.

The daughter of Surumu out of the Ginistrelli mare Happy Gini came into her own in New York by late spring, winning the Sabin Stakes at Belmont Park on May 12. She later captured a division of the 11-furlong Glens Falls Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Saratoga before a seventh-place finish in the Flower Bowl Invitational Handicap (gr. IT). She bounced back at the La Prevoyante distance at Keeneland Oct. 24, winning the Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes by a nose over Aud.

Getting two pounds from Humaita is Arvada, who comes off a third-place finish behind Eleusis and fellow La Prevoyante starter Literacy in the Long Island Handicap (gr. IIT) on Nov. 6. Bred in Great Britain by Myriad Communications and New England Stud, Arvada won the other division of the Glens Falls Handicap this summer. Owned by Giles W. Pritchard-Gordon and trained by Bobby Frankel, Arvada also just started racing in the U.S. this year.

By Hernando--Laindi, by Cadeaux Genereux, Arvada has a 2-2-1 slate from six starts this year.

Irvin Wiemer and John McLane's Something Ventured might have a leg up on the competition off her one-length score in the My Charmer Handicap (gr. IIIT) voer this course Dec. 4. By Cobra King out of the Seattle Slew mare Intend, Something Ventured will carry the same 115-pound impost and will be ridden for the first time in her 34-race career by Jerry Bailey.

The Todd Pletcher-trained Something Ventured was bred in Kentucky by Tomaeato Farm.
