Jockey Dean Sarvis won the 1,000th race of his career Friday night aboard Mr Mag, who closed on the leaders in the stretch and came away a neck in front. Sarvis, 36, said, "It's a big milestone. I'm glad to reach it. I wasn't really thinking about it. I knew it was there. I knew it would come eventually. [My horse] was back and he closed well from between horses. He got bumped a little bit down the lane, and he just dug in. He ran a really game race."Sarvis ranks third in the Turfway standings with eight winners from 47 mounts through Saturday. The win was the first of two in a row for Sarvis on Friday. Among his 14 career stakes wins are five at Turfway, including this year's Turfway Park Fall Championship (gr. III) aboard Cappuchino.
