Jo Ann Weber, Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame executive director, died Nov. 22 from cancer. She was 70 years.

Weber, who worked for the Texas horse racing industry for several decades, felt passionately about preserving the legacy of the Texas racing industry and its participants. She was actively involved in the induction process as well as the planning of the permanent museum and the annual gala.

Prior to becoming executive director of the Hall of Fame and museum, Weber managed the Turf and Field Club at Retama Park. Before her work at Retama, she worked for the Texas Thoroughbred Association and was highly successful at recruiting new members and organizing events for the association.

"She had a way of bringing out the best that people had to offer, and she demanded perfection in all her endeavors," commented Tommy J. Azopardi, executive director of the Texas Horsemen's Partnership.

Weber was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Weber. She is survived by her son.

The family has requested charitable contributions in lieu of flowers. Jo Ann's preferred charities include the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the First United Methodist Church in Luling, Texas.
