Our Majestic Cat, a Tabasco Cat filly originally purchased as a yearling for $410,000, was bought by John D. Gunther for $185,000 to top Monday's first session of the Barretts Equine Ltd.'s January mixed sale. A Florida-bred half-sister to multiple grade I winner Schossberg, Our Majestic Cat was sold without reserve by Havens Bloodstock Agency, on behalf of the Robb Evans, receiver for TLC America. Edward F. Cossey had purchased the filly for $410,000 at the 1999 Keeneland September yearling sale.
American Czarina, another filly bought at the 1999 Keeneland fall yearling sale by Cossey for $100,000, brought Monday's second-highest price of $180,000. Thomas L. Tuttle acquired the daughter of Quiet American who is a half-sister to stakes winner Joopy Doopy.
Barretts reported 216 horses were sold for a gross of $3,842,700 and an average price of $17,790. The 15 horses that did not sell represented a mere 6.4% of the total through the ring. The sale concludes today.
