Riders Injured at Golden Gate, Result Voided Since four entries in the seven-horse field were involved, stewards ruled the race a non-contest. They ordered all wagers returned under California Horse Racing Board rule 15.44, which states: "In the event of interference during the running of a race that affects the majority of horses in the race, stewards may declare the race no contest."Irish Tizzy, who is owned and trained by Armando Lage and ridden by Miranda, suffered a fractured leg and was euthanized. The other horses apparently escaped serious injury. Rippling Water, with Duran aboard, fell over Irish Tizzy, as did Sky Guy, ridden by Lopez. True Stride, ridden by Puglisi, also hit Irish Tizzy but managed to stay on his feet. Puglisi came off True Stride but was not injured in the fall. |
