The jockey colony of Churchill Downs is holding a fundraiser for recently downed jockey Tony D'Amico from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. Nov. 22. The event will be held at Furlongs Restaurant in Louisville, Ky. There will be a $25 per person door charge, which will include dinner, a cash bar, silent and live auctions, and an opportunity to meet with jockeys.
"I'm a big fan of horseracing and wanted to help out," said Furlongs manager Kevin Walters. Walters' brother Tommy, who owns the Louisville Furlongs as well as a location in Lexington, held a similar event for jockey Randy Romero last year.
D'Amico was released last night after spending fourteen days at the University of Louisville Hospital for injuries sustained in a spill at Churchill Downs. He is at home recuperating from two surgeries to repair a crushed rib cage and broken shoulder. All donations are welcome. An account has been set up for D'Amico at Fifth Third Bank.
