Buckaroo, Pleasant Colony Newest Chefs-de-Race

Dr. Steven A. Roman has named Buckaroo and Pleasant Colony as chef-de-race stallions. A son of Classic chef-de-race Buckpasser, Buckaroo has been designated in the Brilliant/Intermediate category, and Pleasant Colony, by Classic chef-de-race His Majesty, is categorized in the Intermediate division. Both stallions are deceased.

Buckaroo's strength in pedigrees is largely felt through sons Spend a Buck and Montbrook  . A Horse of the Year, deceased Spend a Buck is represented this year by champion sprint contender Pico Central and grade I turf winner Hard Buck. Montbrook, who stands at Michael O'Farrell's Ocala Stud Farm near Ocala, Fla., ranks as one of the Sunshine State's top stallions.

Pleasant Colony, also a champion, ranks fifth on this year's leading sire list. His son Pleasant Tap also is enjoying a fine year. Pleasant Tap, who stands at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky., is represented by grade I winner Pt's Grey Eagle and Japanese group I winner Tap Dance City. Set to enter stud near year at Lane's End is Pleasant Colony's millionaire son Pleasantly Perfect, a grade I winner this year and victorious in last year's Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I).

Chef-de-race stallions are characterized to reflect the dominant traits they transmit to their offspring.
