(from Woodbine report)One for Rose, last year's Sovereign Award winner as Canada's top older filly, is back to defend her title in the $175,000 Maple Leaf (Can-III) Saturday at Woodbine, a 1 ¼-mile main track event the Ontario-bred won by 6 ¼ lengths in 2003.
A lifetime earner of $905,733 from 21 starts, One for Rose has been a model of consistency throughout her racing career. She has 11 wins, including four added-money scores, and 17 top-three finishes.
The Sid Attard trainee has, in fact, only missed one check in her three years at the races.. Owned by Tucci Stables, One for Rose sports a record of 3-2-0 from seven starts this season with $348,322 in earnings.
The dark bay mare heads into this weekend's race off a second-place finish as the favorite to Maple Leaf rival Raylene in an Oct. 24 prep race. That came on the heels of a respectable fourth-place finish to high-profile Azeri in the Spinster Handicap (gr. I) on Oct. 10 at Keeneland.
One for Rose, the 7-5 morning line choice, will be paired with Emile Ramsammy for the fifth consecutive time and 13th time overall.
