Jockey Club Increases New York Fees

The Jockey Club board of stewards has approved increases in fees assessed to name Thoroughbreds and register owners' silks at New York racetracks.

It marks the first increase in naming fees since 1993, and to silks registration fees since 1985. The new silks fees apply to all registrations and renewals for the 2005 racing year, as well as to registrations made in December for the 2004 racing year, in which case the new fee will cover the month of December 2004 and all of 2005.

The fees are as follows: $75 (up from $50) to claim a name if a valid attempt isn't made by Feb. 1 of a foal's 2-year-old year; $75 (up from $50) to reserve a name; $100 (up from $75) to register silks for the first time; $25 (up from $15) to renew silks registration for one year; and $100 (up from $60) to renew silks registration for five years.

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board designates The Jockey Club as the state's registry for owners' silks and stable names.
