The National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced Monday it will form a working group to look into the issue of jockey medical insurance coverage. The panel will be chaired by the NTRA's Terry Meyocks.

The announcement comes a day after a group of jockeys was made to leave the grounds of Churchill Downs because they refused to be named on mounts on Wednesday's card there. The jockeys were told they would be barred from the track for the entire meet, which ends Thanksgiving weekend.

"Our members -- including race tracks, breeders, owners, and other horsemen -- have asked us to take on this project. Our goal will be to expeditiously analyze the current situation regarding jockey medical insurance coverage on a state-by-state basis and issue recommendations that strive for a common sense industry solution to an industry-wide problem," NTRA Commissioner D.G. Van Clief Jr. said.
