When Carib Lady was purchased by Shadai Farm for $900,000 at Monday's opening session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, it marked a milestone of $1-billion in public auction sales for the Taylor Made Sales Agency.
Based in Nicholasville, Ky. Taylor Made was established by, and since 1986 has been owned by, the sons of Joe Taylor, the Kentucky horseman who managed Gainesway Farm when it was owned by John Gaines. The sales agency was an offshoot of the Taylor family's Taylor Made Farm, which now comprises more than 1,600 acres in central Kentucky. Taylor Made Sales Agency was founded 26 years ago and sold its first horses in 1979.
"We'd like to thank all the people who have worked for us over the years," said Taylor Made president Duncan Taylor. "We have the greatest staff in the world, and it's enabled us to have the greatest customers in the world."
