Kela, runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) Saturday, would probably make his next start at Aqueduct in the $350,000 Cigar Mile (gr. I) Nov. 27, trainer Mike Mitchell said Thursday.
"The one-turn mile is ideal for him, although Pico Central and some others in there will be tough competition," Mitchell said.
The 6-year-old Kela, a son of Numerous, won the seven-furlong Pat O'Brien Handicap (gr. II) at Del Mar Aug. 15 in his last start before the Breeders' Cup. Earlier in the year, he captured the Texas Mile (gr. III) at Lone Star Park.
Mitchell also said that Star Over the Bay, who faded to last on a yielding course in the Breeders' Cup Turf, would probably resurface in the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Turf at Santa Anita in January.
"I think he likes the firmer Southern California turf courses better," said Mitchell. The 6-year-old Florida-bred gelding won graded stakes at Hollywood Park, Del Mar and Santa Anita before the trip to Texas.
