Grade II winner Spice Island has been retired from racing because of a minor injury suffered in the Oct. 10 WinStar Galaxy Stakes (gr. IIT) at Keeneland.
"We felt her retirement was the best for her as she had given so much to us," said owner Kurt Butenhoff of Denlea Park.
Five-year-old Spice Island (Tabasco Cat--Crown of Sheba, by Alysheba) won the Long Island Handicap (gr. IIT) and Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes on turf and placed in six stakes. Bred by Cranford Stud, she retired with seven wins from 28 starts and earnings of $487,376.
