From Santa Annita ParkOdds-on favorite Feverish shot through a gap at the top of the stretch, opened up three lengths on the field of seven older fillies and mares at the eighth-pole, then held off the late run of Lovellon to win the $98,525 Paseana Handicap by one length Thursday at Santa Anita Park.
Ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye at highweight of 123 pounds, Feverish was sent off as the 3-5 favorite and completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42 2/5, returning $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10. Pam and Martin Wygod bred and own the Dan Hendricks-trained Feverish.
Lovellon, Gary Stevens riding at 116 pounds, made a late run to finish second and paid $5.20 and $3.40. It was seven lengths back to Cookin Vickie, Garrett Gomez up at 115 pounds and a $5.20 show payoff.
Tutelada, Potrimagic, Southern House and Box Office Girl completed the order of finish.
Feverish got squeezed back going into the first turn and Delahoussaye allowed Box Office Girl, Kent Desormeaux riding at 117 pounds, to show the way through fractions of :23 1/5, :46 4/5 and 1:11. Delahoussaye was content to let Feverish sit third down the backstretch while saving ground along the rail. Box Office Girl continued to show the way around the far turn, came off the rail enough to allow Feverish to sneak through at the top of the lane and unleash her winning move.
A 6-year-old California-bred mare by Pirate's Bounty, out of Blonde Fever, Feverish won for the 12th time in 33 starts while the winner's share of $59,115 inflated her career earnings to $758,437.
